A Data Breach at IKEA Canada Impacts 95,000 Customers

Following a massive data breach involving the personal information of about 95,000 customers, IKEA says it has contacted Canada's privacy commissioner.

The furniture store claimed in a statement that some of its customers' personal information appeared in the results of a "generic search" made on IKEA Canada's customer database by a co-worker between March 1-3.

The incident did not involve any financial or banking information, according to IKEA.

Connecticut Enacts Consumer Privacy Law

After Gov. Ned Lamont, D-Conn. signed Senate Bill 6, An Act Concerning Personal Data Privacy and Online Monitoring, into law on May 10, 2022, Connecticut became the fifth state in the United States to have comprehensive consumer privacy legislation. Most provisions of the law will take effect on July 1, 2023, in tandem with the Colorado Privacy Act, providing businesses with just over 14 months to comply.
