The window for public comments on the draft Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 has closed, ending a two-month consultation wherein the government sought feedback from various stakeholders. The Centre will now review the comments and will reportedly release the finalized rules in the next eight weeks or so. As per a MeitY official doubts around consent management, authority in control, data localisation, parental control and verifiable parents have been addressed.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has reportedly extended the public feedback period on draft rules for the Digital Personal Data Protection Act till March 2, 2025, following the concerns from various stakeholders. Previously, February 18, 2025, was set as the last date.

By proactively addressing DPDPA compliance, we not only mitigate legal risks but also reinforce trust and credibility with our customers.

E-commerce platforms, social media intermediaries, and online gaming platforms with significant user bases in India will soon be required to erase personal data of users three years after it is no longer needed. This directive is part of the draft rules under the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, released for public feedback. The government is soliciting feedback on the draft rules through the MyGov portal until February 18, 2025.
